IE Tab Extension for Firefox

by Jason Bean on March 24th, 2008

IE-tab-extension

I’m looking for the extension that I used to have installed in Firefox that would let me open a page in a tab, within Firefox, in the IE rendering engine.

I found the IE Tab extension by PCMan (Hong Jen Yee), but the version currently available only works with Firefox v3.

I looked through the version history and installed an earlier version that seems to have installed okay in my installation of Firefox 2, but I don’t want to mess things up.

Is that what I need to do? Is there another extension that does the same thing but works with older versions of Firefox?

Someone let me know.

Hey Jason, yes, I had the same issue. Only able to find the IE Tab for ver. 3.x, but if you look toward the lower right hand corner of the web page you’ll see a link titled ” What Happened To IE Tab 1.5 On This Site?”, which provides the following link to get the old copy.

This older version of IE Tab is compatible with Firefox 2.whatever.

Yeah, I ended up downloading a previous version of the extension and it’s been working fine. It’s such a nice bonus. The best of both worlds. Now we’ll just have to wait and see if IE8 wins me back completely.

Don’t forget about FireFox 3.0 will be released soon as well. Lots of choices….. I haven’t felt like trying the Apple Safari browser being pushed out through the iTunes automatic updates utility. I liked the Opera Mini browser so much for my mobile phone I decided to try the full version for my PC, and while I liked a lot of the features, I found it was not compatible with a lot of web sites. I don’t recommend the full version of the Opera browser. Plus a lot of the things I liked about the full Opera browser are available as Add-Ons in FireFox. I’m still a FireFox man, and the performance of IE8 will have to be landmark for me to go back to a Microsoft Browser.
