Xobni: E-mail Information Management in Outlook

I just received a beta invite to Xobni (which is “Inbox” backwards if you didn’t notice), which is a e-mail management add-on for Microsoft Outlook.
Xobni is the Outlook plug-in that saves you time finding email conversations, contacts and attachments.
After a quick install, you’ll see the new Xobni toolbar appear in Outlook - […]

I couldn’t live without….

The question was presented to me by my channel editor at b5 for an upcoming theme across the channel.
My immediate thought was that I couldn’t live without Windows Live Writer now. I’ve become so used to the application that my productivity around blogging and expressing my thoughts and creativity are enmeshed through-out the app. As […]

Why Aren’t Contacts Related in Outlook?

I am reminded again that Outlook is missing something obvious in my opinion. When I’m adding additional details to a contact, why can’t I link one contact to another one in my address book for things like:

Manager’s Name
Assistant’s Name
Spouse / Partner

Isn’t this obvious? Anyone else figured out something that would […]

Auto-Correct for "HSA" Ignoring Me

I’ve set Microsoft Word 2007 to ignore words in UPPERCASE, but when I type “HSA” as in Healthcare Savings Account, it keeps telling me I’ve spelled “has” wrong.
What else do I need to do to stop telling it to ignore words in UPPERCASE or specifically “HSA”. I don’t want it to ignore me if […]

Two Years Ago Today - January 3rd, 2006

I’m sure that date doesn’t mean much to anyone else but for me it marks the two year anniversary of my first post on the Microsoft Weblog site.
Meeting of the E-mail Guru’s talked about the heads of Microsoft’s Hotmail, Yahoo Mail and Gmail getting together and talking about the development of each of […]

Better Out-of-Office Functionality

A little issue we ran across today in our office is the functionality available when setting up your “Out-of-Office Assistant” with Microsoft Outlook 2007. If I remember correctly it also functioned like this with previous versions of Outlook as well.
Why is it when I’m setting up the Out-of-Office Assistant, I can’t immediately specify what […]

Can’t Click Links in Outlook

All of a sudden I’ve started getting this error message in Outlook when I try to click on a link. I’ve looked through all of my settings and options and can’t find where to go to fix it. I’m fairly certain it’s a security setting somewhere.
I do a quick search in Google on […]

Managing Offline Status with Outlook

When you set Outlook to “Work Offline” in the menu system, the icon in the task tray changes to remind you that you’re working in offline mode.
It would be really helpful if I could right-click on the icon and change Outlook to be back “Online” wouldn’t it?
Seems like that would be an easy solution.

Outlook Views Pinned to Your Desktop

I just came across this post on the Office Tweaks blog. The little application takes your Outlook information: Calendar, Inbox, Notes, Tasks, Contacts and puts them on your desktop so they’re always available.
The application comes from Michael Scrivo and I think he’s done an excellent job with this little application. One annoyance I already […]

Outlook Archived Folders Functionality

Why is it I can’t select multiple “Archive Folders” when trying to manage them in Outlook? The fact that I have to right-click on each of them individually to close them from the view is really annoying for this morning.
Somewhat less annoying, but if possible would eliminate this annoyance is the fact that I […]
