Changes for OneCare

by Jason Bean on March 15th, 2006

Microsoft announced some changes for the Windows OneCare Live beta. One of those changes is a new name, Windows OneCare Live beta is now just Windows Live OneCare. The beta is dropped, although it’s still in beta, they’re just “getting closer” to the real deal. Then there’s the obvious branding tie-in to the other Windows Live products being promoted.

Windows Live OneCare also now how anti-spyware functionality via Windows Defender. I’ve been very impressed with Windows Defender so far in my experience and am happy they’ve integrated it into the OneCare product offering. I’m just wondering how that impacts people like myself who have both products installed separately.

Looks like the product will be available, fully out of beta in April 2006. Given the deal they’re giving beta testers ($19.95 for 3 computers) and my experience with the product, I’ll be taking advantage of their offer.
