How To Use Previously Uploaded WP Images with Live Writer

by Jason Bean on July 12th, 2007

I am absolutely loving using Windows Live Writer for all my blogging. Well, except for the fact I’m not able to use it for all my blogging because of this weird error message that I can’t seem to get a solution for up to this point.

Yet, one of the frustrations I have of the program is that it doesn’t make it very easy to browse the directory of previously uploaded images to WordPress. This would be one area that would be a welcome addition to functionality that even WordPress hasn’t delivered.

I’ve figured out a somewhat simple workaround though:

  1. Browse to the post where your image exists in WordPress
  2. Right-click on the image and choose “Properties”
  3. Copy the link specified in the “Address (URL)” value
  4. Paste this link in the “Picture URL” box on the “Insert Picture from Web” tab in the LiveWriter interface.

Granted, I should be able to specify the directory for my images in my blog setup and provide a login authorization to access the directory.
