More Folder Details Under "Details"

by Jason Bean on November 12th, 2007

Anyone else think there’s something missing in the screen shot below?

file-folder-details

Okay Microsoft developers, here’s a question for you.

“Why don’t you actually use the “Details” pane to show me more information?”

It’s not very helpful to look there for more “Details” and not get anything. I know sometimes you can click on an individual file and get some stuff. If I click on a hard drive, you tell me space available and used. I know it can be done technically.

So why is it if I click on a folder of files I get nothing? If I right-click on that same file folder I get things like:

file-folder-details2

You know, helpful stuff. Stuff I’d expect to see in the “Details” pane. So, why can’t you tell me how many files are in there. What’s their total size. Maybe synch information if it’s a synchronized folder?

I know this isn’t directly related to my problem but after checking out this whole site I found no actual way to submit my problem, sorry!!

Something happened recently that is driving me CRAZY, although I’m sure not many would think of it as an actual ‘problem’.

My computer is running Windows XP. I’ve had absolutely no problems with viruses, etc…., but, I recently had my boyfriend build a computer for my daughter, so I started sending her a lot of pictures, etc..via email. At one point, when I tried to ‘browse attachments’ thru my email provider, when the window came up, it was no longer at the ‘details’ section to view the folder contents, which it automatically comes up usually, ever since I’ve used a computer-which is for years. This has caused me to first, click on ‘browse’ to choose the file I want to attach, once the box comes up, it is just an absolutely RANDOM list of files in the folder, not alphabetically organized in any way, which it always has been in the past-which is something I guess I’ve taken for granted since it was always there. Maybe I wouldn’t have been bothered by this strange change, but I send my daughter alot of pictures and files, so it’s very irritating to have to click browse, then select the folder, then in ‘choose file’, I have to click on the list for view-thumbnails, tiles, details, and choose details, THEN click on the bar that changes the details around by alphabetical order, THEN scroll to find the file. I cannot remember a time where the ‘choose file’ box came up that I had to choose details, etc…in order to find a file. This may seem trivial, but I also design and sell jewelry online, and it is quite a problem since I’m always working with my folders, and uploading pictures.

I’ve had no problems with viruses or anything else like that, I’ve scanned my hard drive over and over, and I am very careful choosing the sites I view. I have more than one email provider, so I know the problem isn’t connected to a specific site, since it started happening with ALL of my email providers, whenever I try to attach a file.

Has anyone else had this weird problem besides me???

Thank you for any help you can provide, and I hope this gets directed to the correct area it should be in.
