Old Installed Software Problems

by Jason Bean on June 11th, 2007

I’ve been more than pleased with my ongoing experiences with Windows Live Writer.

I’ve been so pleased that I just downloaded and installed the software on my personal home computer as well. After doing that, I came across something that irritates me.

After the software completed installation, I fired it up to begin writing a couple of posts on my personal blog. When I went to add the details for my personal blog, it was already listed as an option, along with all my other b5media blogs and even some other sites that I no longer write for or don’t exist.

The thing that bothers me is where were these settings being stored on my computer? I had uninstalled the original beta software long ago. I’m not necessarily shocked by this discovery or really upset. It’s just annoying. It makes me wonder how much other stuff is left hanging out in my hidden registry settings.

1 opinion for Old Installed Software Problems

Most registry cleaning programs that I’ve seen force me to either “research” every key to determine that I really don’t need it -OR- select the “nuclear option” of clearing EVERY value not currently claimed by installed software (that IT has found).

SO…should we be doing a complete format-C and then reinstall all software at least once a year?
