Previewing PDF’s in Outlook 2007
Have you tried and or noticed that you can’t preview a PDF document in Outlook 2007 like you can a majority of other documents you might receive via your e-mail?
Ryan Gregg, who is part of the Outlook team at Microsoft has developed and released a little add-in that allows you to preview those PDF documents in your own interface without any problems, except for one catch.
Although it’s obvious, it’s still annoying. You’ve got to have Adobe Reader 7 or later for the add-in to work since it’s using Adobe’s own ActiveX control to make the previewing functionality work. Now normally this would be fine for me, but I’ve ditched Adobe, it’s just too bloated for me and I’ve been using CutePDF and FoxIt Reader for everything I need. Guess that is almost everything I need, if I’d like to actually preview PDF’s in Outlook.

Not sure if you’ve made it back, but I added a comment on my post as a follow-up to yours: there’s an Outlook 2007 PDF Preview using FoxIt as well–if you’re using Vista. http://infotech.lakeviewchurch.org/2007/04/01/outlook-2007-pdf-preview/

Oh that would be perfect if I were running Vista on my machines yet. They’re not quite strong enough to get me all the features of Vista and I’m not quite equipped yet to upgrade my machines. Thanks again David.

Keep an eye on the FoxIt Reader Outlook preview site; it says they’re working on an XP version at some point (no indication of when). I haven’t even used Vista for more than couple of minutes on someone else’s machine, so don’t feel too left behind :-) I also don’t have a huge problem with Adobe Reader 8.0 (7.0 wasn’t too terrible either) though. Usually, anyway…
