SQL Server Mobile

Microsoft will be making the mobile version of their SQL Server software capable of running on any version of Windows. Currently the product only works on Windows CD and Windows Tablet editions. But with this announcement, they’ll be expanding their user base.

I’ll definitely be looking into this more because I know we have some clients with my job that will more than likely be interesting in having the ability to take their database driven applications with them “anywhere”. The mobile product will be renamed SQL Server Anywhere Edition. Not too sure about that name, I think SQL Server Mobile or Mobile SQL would have worked better. Of course Microsoft’s not really been known to be that creative when it comes to naming their products.
