What is Microsoft "Albany"

by Jason Bean on April 7th, 2008

Has anyone else been hearing information about a new product entering beta (or is it alpha) testing?

A recent article by Mary Jo Foley shared a few different options of what it could be:

  • the latest version of Microsoft Works that may or may not be advertisement funded
  • a new package of “Authoring” components that would include Word, OneNote, InfoPath and Publisher
  • a completely online competitor to Google Docs

Foley shares at the end of the article that she has received confirmation that the next version of Office, Office 14, won’t be web-based, but will remain PC based.

So, which will it be? The new Works, online web app or something else? Let us know in our current poll.

What is 'Albany' going to be?
