Windows Home Server

by Jason Bean on January 10th, 2007

How many computers do you have in your home? How many purely personal computers that you keep separated from your work/business systems?

I’m just getting started along these lines. We have a desktop, a very old laptop, and 3 very old desktops. Then I have my work laptop. I’m working on getting the three old desktops operational and setup for very specific tasks in the house: file servers, kitchen computer, etc.

After hearing about the Windows Home Server, it appears as if maintaining and getting the most value out of a home network like this will become even easier in the future.

As a small, headless box that lives on your network and in your closet, a Windows Home Server can quickly grow the pool of storage from which all of your shared files for each of your users lives. The backup engine in Windows Home Server also silently backs up the entirety of each machine connected to it every night. And because the data is always online, using the built-in remote access abilities, you’ll also be able to access your data from any machine on the planet.

Thanks to Jeremy Wright for the heads up on this from his blog and these other resources for finding out more information.

Windows Home Server will live in your closet, simplify your life
Windows Home Server on Channel9 great video from this link, but the guy on the video is slightly annoying.
