Windows Live Writer Update Thoughts

by Jason Bean on July 10th, 2008

I wrote about updating my installation of Windows Live Writer to the newest tech preview and now it’s time to share some thoughts and images.

Let’s work through the image above to see some updates and improvements:

  1. Quick Color Formatting: Not sure if this is new or not but didn’t remember it in the old version. Basically it’s just a quick way to change your preferred interface color.
  2. Change Blog: A drop-down list of all your blogs setup in the system to allow you to choose the one you need to post to quickly.
  3. View Tabs: A quick way to change between the different views available for editing: Edit (my preferred), Preview, Source (Pure HTML editing).
  4. Auto-linking: Although not shown in the post, as you type in a term that you have saved in your link glossary it’s automatically linked to without any intervention

No very many huge or significant improvements, but enough to make it worthwhile. What I’m looking for now though is a mobile version that I can use on my PPC-6700 Pocket PC phone on my Sprint network.

The tab feature is a nifty little upgrade, and auto-linking could save some time. Nice!
