Windows Mail Replaces Outlook Express

An area that hasn’t gotten much press with all the talk about Vista, IE7 and the new Office 2007, is lowly Outlook Express.
The Lifehacker site has a great gallery of screen shots and details about the application. Gina Trapani wasn’t too impressed with the developments although she did state it was still a nice upgrade to Outlook Express.
But when I dove into Windows Mail (I’m running Vista RC 1), I was a bit disappointed. Is Windows Mail an update to Outlook Express? Definitely. The contact management and built-in Junk mail filtering is really nice. But would I consider giving up Thunderbird for it? No way.
I’m running Outlook 2007 and am VERY happy with my experience with the upgrade. I do have plenty of clients that are still using Outlook Express for their e-mail client, as well as having my mom running Thunderbird for her e-mail. As always, we’ll see how everything plays out in the end.

Forget Windows mail or live mail, etc. I want to know WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED TO THE NEW MESSAGE FEATURE FROM THE DROP DOWN MENU FROM THE MAIL ICON ON THE TOOLBAR THAT WAS IN IE6 and previous versions of IE. I DO NOT want to have to open my damn freaking mail every time I need to create a message. IE7 ELIMINATED this feature. I DO NOT want to keep my Outlook open all the time, because it’s not that important. Does someone have a toll-free for Bill Gates?

We are converting back from Vista to XP, and we’d like to move the email folders from Windows Mail to Outlook Express. With Outlook Express, I’d move around the dbx files along with folders.dbx. Windows Mail uses .EML files. Any advice on this?
