Windows Update - Windows XP (KB934238)
Anyone else having problems with the KB934238 update installing on their machines? After a quick search I found a couple of posts about it and ended up just telling my machine to ignore the update.
Has that given anyone else any additional problems by just ignoring it?
On a related note, anyone got a link on how to create a new restore disc for a really old computer that would include all the OS updates already included so I don’t have to download everything again if I need to restore?

OK when you install any updates in the future make sure you use Advanced instead of (Recommended) because this is being caused by .Net 3.0 not being installed before Update for Windows XP (KB934238) install .Net first before Update for Windows XP (KB934238) and this will not happen. Hope this helps

Thanks for that tip. Anyone that tries this and confirms it works let us know. Makes sense to me though, I know the order of updates can make a big difference sometimes.

Well I just installed it succesfully.
First time, The download failed. I had .Net 3.0 installed, no service pack.
After the service pack installation plus update it worked.

My computer works also without installing it! If you want to install it anyway, try to tun on your printer and then make windows update.
I heard that it could cancel all your settings for your HP printer.
So pay attention!

[…] .NET update is related to these problems I believe. Is it a just a continuity error with one update needing to go before another and it didn’t […]

Try…
1) Disable your anti-virus or internet security software prior to install this update
or
2) Download and install manually

I am having the same problem. Also, since the failed update my Live One Care is not working, and I cannot start my Peachtree Accounting software.

Anybody tried? I solved my problem already! Now no more irritating “recommended but failed” download…

I have same problem. Reinstalled genuine xp and can’t install live updates.Even tried to run CHKDSK /R and still won’t work. Dell would fix it for £50. I paid £800 for mine and buying a lap top for £1000. It causes no harm and refuse to pay £50 to a bunch of crooks. Their service has declined.
