Woo Hoo! Silverlight on NBC Olympics Now Works For Me

Know what that screen shot is from? My computer where the Silverlight video is playing as expected in my Firefox 3 browser!
After working with Tim Heuer, who works on the Microsoft Silverlight team, I’m now able to see and enjoy all the wonderful Olympic video that’s available on NBC Olympics website.
Here’s what we did to get things working:
Tried one more time to download and install Silverlight 2.0. Again, was successful with the install with no displayed or apparent errors. Still didn’t work on the website though.
We then shut down my browsers completely and went into the Add/Remove Programs functionality in the Control Panel. Removed the Microsoft Silverlight entry, which went through with no apparent problems either.
Checked the C:\Program Files\Microsoft Silverlight directory to see if it was in face deleted. It turns out it wasn’t and there was still a folder directory for “2.0.30523.8” still in there, and loaded with files. We manually deleted the entire “Microsoft Silverlight” directory from the hard drive.
Then went back and installed the Silverlight 2.0 application from the executable file again. Again no problems or errors displayed in the installation.
Opened browser and went back to the Silverlight website and saw the new Silverlight animations and features displayed with no problems.
Opened tab in Firefox 3 to go to the NBC Olympics website. Was prompted for my location information and TV provider information. The website told me that AT&T U-verse didn’t offer service in my zip code, which is wrong. So they still need to get that fixed. I just changed my answer for that option to say I got my TV service from Comcast though and that worked.
SILVERLIGHT NOW WORKS AS EXPECTED!
According to Tim, the problem could have been caused for all the previous versions of Silverlight that I had downloaded and installed. I’d always upgrade and try out the latest alpha, beta version of each version and never had problems.
Something was probably jacking up the system and keeping it from installing as it expected to, but not knowing to update the registry or something to the newest version which is what the NBC Olympics website needed.
- Close Browsers
- Add/Remove Microsoft Silverlight
- Delete installation directory for “Microsoft Silverlight”
- Re-install Silverlight
- Enjoy video goodness!
Either way, it’s working now and that makes me happy. A HUGE thanks to Tim Heuer for helping me out. Should have been something I could have figured out, but glad he took the time and patience to work through the issue with me to a solution.

Congrats on getting it fixed. Nice of Tim to help you out there.
Try the Enlarge Video button. That launches the real Olympic experience. You can get LIVE feeds rolling together in the Video Center, PIP for 2 videos, and all the works. It’s pretty awesome.
